It’s seems like I’m not the only one who’s having problems talking lately. Not talking in general, but talking about emotive issues (i.e. the war, politics, etc.) Normally I’m perfectly happy to be contrary and debate with people, but I just find it much more difficult these days. It’s not simply that it requires more…

Guardian launches new science section – and not a moment too soon, either. British science reporting is woefully poor (with the exception of the BBC) and often completely exaggerated (Sunday Times, anyone). I’m happy to see that the Guardian recognises the importance of decent science reporting.

Tom Watson (Labour MP) may be under the scrutiny of the web for his patently joking Teens Page but I’m more impressed by the fact that he actually has a weblog. Not just that, but it’s regularly updated, written by himself, and runs Movable Type. Even better, it isn’t a constant litany of propaganda. How…

Sci-Fi channel’s new lineup of shows – does Sci-Fi lack a rubbish filter, or perhaps any sense of judgement? From the looks of their new shows, the answer seems to be yes; with the exception of a few, they all sound terrible (and they’re all fantasy, not SF). I mean, ‘Dead Lawyers – lawyers that…

The German Family Affairs Ministry has blacklisted EA’s new game Command & Conquer: Generals because it “portrays war as the only way to resolve conflicts,” and that “it gives military force an aesthetic appeal.” When I first heard about C&C: Generals, I have to admit that I was a bit surprised at its premise of…

International Space Centre for Merseyside – bit of a bizarre idea, putting it in Wallasey, and I’m not sure how many visitors it’ll get, but on the whole I think that more space centres are always a good thing.

Scene: A moderately untidy lab in a university with stacks of papers on tables and computers humming away to themselves. One person, G, is building a couple of computers and taking apart two others. S watches by. Another, R, is working on a paper. G holds up a dusty-looking computer card. G: R, what should…

The BBC Digital are airing a new eight-part series this Saturday called The Murder Game. In it, ten contestants try to solve a murder investigation in the fictional village of Blackwater. It seems that the level of interactivity with the public (mostly online) will be pretty low, considering that we aren’t eligible for the £25,000…
