Imagine playing an RTS game like Total War (in fact, just like Total War) with three of your friends, on a big screen and a couple of military history advisors. That’s what BBC2’s new show Time Commanders is, essentially. There are a few twists, of course. None of the four players actually got to touch…

There’s an interesting article been written comparing the Orange SPV Smartphone (running Microsoft Smartphone 2003) and the Sony Ericsson T616 (the US equivalent of the T610). The reason I found it interesting is because I’ll probably be upgrading my phone in a few months and I’m in a bit of a quandary as to which…

Since my last post, I haven’t made much progress on the article. At all. Between my 21st birthday and playing Syberia, I’ve been kept from doing any serious writing. Luckily, both were a lot of fun. Syberia is a graphical adventure game of the old-fashioned thirdperson point-and-click ilk, and was produced last year by Microids…

After an interesting day where I got to see remote controlled planes with moveable cameras fly around a field west of Sydney (photos up when I get back) I went to the Star City Casino in the evening with Andrew, the friend I’ve been staying with. Star City was quite a touristy place and was…

A friend, who shall rename nameless, once told me that she’d been recommended to read Ender’s Shadow, by Orson Scott Card. Ender’s Shadow is a ‘spinoff’ book that occurs during the events of the classic Ender’s Game novel, but from the perspective of Bean. If you haven’t read Ender’s Game, please read it now –…

I’m writing this from the improbably clean and tidy Singapore International Airport. I’ve just gotten off a 13 hour flight from Manchester, and I’m feeling surprisingly okay; Singapore Airline is pretty good. The plane had a very impressive entertainment system with the usual complement of movies and TV shows, but more importantly, they had about…

An excerpt from an email I sent a couple of weeks ago Incidentally, I went to a theme park (Thorpe Park, near London) with some friends yesterday, which was good fun. The best part was when we went to a ride called ‘Tidal Wave’. Now, Tidal Wave is basically a big log flume (like Splash…

Just watched Phone Booth tonight. Overall, an mildly entertaining movie that is somewhat predictable, but with an interesting use of sets (namely, the phone booth) and a compelling dynamic between the caller and the ‘hero’. Could’ve been much better though; I believe that the original screenplay was far edgier and, unsurprisingly, less ‘Hollywood’.

I’ve spent the last four days playing Freelancer. Freelancer has this interesting thing that allows you to track the amount of time you’ve spent in the game; over those four days I spent a bit over 20 hours on it, so let’s just say right from the start that it is pretty damn playable and…

I’ve just come out of a production of Copenhagen at the ADC Theatre here in Cambridge. A more complete post and review will have to come later, but I have to describe what I felt. Through the stages of revisions and unveiling of hidden and assumed meanings throughout the play, at the end it seemed…
