Tom Watson (Labour MP) may be under the scrutiny of the web for his patently joking Teens Page but I’m more impressed by the fact that he actually has a weblog. Not just that, but it’s regularly updated, written by himself, and runs Movable Type. Even better, it isn’t a constant litany of propaganda. How many elected officials can say the same?

Nick Palmer’s local party web site isn’t a weblog as such, but it does contain reasonably frequent (~weekly) newsletters to the public which is not a million miles off – in spirit, at least. Tom Watson’s site looks very promising indeed to me.
Incidentally, I am not the Chris Dickson with whom your brother works. This is why I use my middle initial. I was amused when I saw the coincidence myself.
Gary Hart, a candidate for president in 1984, 1988 and possibly 2004 has his own blog. As far as I know, he’s the first American politician to do so. I expect he’s setting a trend for future candidates for office to set up their own campaign blogs. If you’re interested, I’ve listed the URL below:

Ah, I thought it was an interesting coincidence Chris 🙂
To be honest, I’m not too bothered about the weblog format in itself; what I would like from MPs are regular bulletins of what they are doing, and their honest thoughts (rather than propaganda). Weblogs happen to be one cheap and convenient way of doing that.
I don’t think my MP has a weblog, although I have to admit that he personally replied to a letter I sent him very quickly, which was encouraging.
