Netcraft Uptime page for Metafilter

Contents

Latest status

3 February 2009 - In the morning, an unsupported version of Apache couldn't stand up to the load. Posting has been restored on the old server, which is running things right now (9:20am, PST).

2 February 2009 - A new server or two was brought on, both old & new went read-only, then the new went live in the evening. The old is running from the new, so the DNS switchover should be painless. Note, the old one is still read-only.

Previous outages

27 January 2009 - Online - but uptime is still rocky. [1]

25 January 2009 - Online, sometimes. Only MeFi and Ask.MeFi are available at this time. [2] [3]

24 January 2009 - "MetaFilter is having a massage" Due to a SQL injection problem (this is after profile pages are disabled, bizarre lines appear, and metatalk pages lead to random mefi posts)

14 January 2009 - It's awesome. Well, it's okay.

2007

22 August 2007 19:10 UTC Not responding. 21:30 UTC it's back, but slow

21 August 2007 20:15 UTC 500 Internal Server Error 23:40 UTC Back.

29 March 2007 14:10 BST Jrun intermittently all morning, now Jrunning constantly.

26 March 2007 06:40 GMT Back online. New servers up and ready.

25 March 2007 16:20 GMT: Not responding. Mathowie's explanation.

16 February 2007 20:40 UTC: 500 Internal Server Error. 23:50 UTC Okay now.

2006

13 December 2006 10:25 GMT: Not responding. Still down 2 hours later. Still down 2 hours after that 2:25gmt

20 November 2006 14:16 UTC: Not responding. Back online at 15:01 UTC.

4th October 2006 ~22:15 UTC: Looks ok now. Fingers crossed.

4th October 2006 ~19:30 UTC onwards: Gimpy. That's a highly technical term meaning: some 500 internal errors, some timeout/no response, very very rarely get through.

14 September 2006 07:27 UTC: Back up. Yay! If you see things still broken, add them to this thread

13 September 2006 23:54 UTC: the web server did an auto-update last night and rebooted and didn't come back up. Mathowie is working with the colo guys to reinstall the OS and get Apache running, but it's taking some time. He's hoping to get it up and running by this evening, California USA time.

13 September 2006 16:47 UTC: status.metafilter.com now reports "There was a hardware failure, hopefully coming back online later today"

13 September 2006 16:18 UTC: So I get back from the doctor's and it's still out? Is something really up this time?

13 September 2006 11:29 EST: Still No response all morning. *sigh*

13 September 2006 18:20 Central Europe: No response from server every time I checked throughout the day. Metafilter is beginning to suck big-time.

13 September 2006 08:30 UTC: No response from server, again. This is from the UK, if it helps. (Come on - 3 days in a row I've got into work and found that there's no Mefi to peruse. Can us europeans get our money back please?) (Matthowie, please! Buy a new hamster!) (1401 UTC still down) 12 September 2006 13:30 UTC: no response from server...again. This has been a habit lately. After a good period of stability.

11 September 2006 08:00 PST: no response from server. Is it true mathowie will be refunding everyone $1.00 now that Metafilter only works 80 percent of the time? :)

9 September 2006 ~11:15 Central European Time): No response from server. Metafilter: serving you 20 hours a day

Aug 28, 2006 10:30 UDT: [code=RESOURCE_RECLAIMED] Internal error. 500 Server Error

Aug 27, 2006: Server not reponding. Port 80 answers, requests hang forever. (9:06PM NZST, 2:06AM PDT)
