Tough Love for PhDs - Brad talks about the mismatch between tenure-track positions and PhDs granted as US universities (I don’t know what the situation is in the UK). Good job I have four years to figure out what I want to do.

Economics has been (and is) different due to the near-infinite demand for people to teach in business schools, which creams off a huge share of Ph.D.s. Electrical engineering-like fields have been different for the past two decades (and may still be different) due to the infotech revolution. Biological fields are different (and will be different for the next two decades) due to the biotech revolution.
